Lumitale Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 June 2026

Lumitale ("Lumitale," "we," "us," or "our") is a calm, magical app where a parent or guardian and a child create illustrated stories together. We built Lumitale for families and designed it to be safe for young children. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what information the app does and does not handle, how it is used, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Lumitale mobile app and the services it connects to.

The short version: Lumitale has no user accounts, shows no ads, uses no third-party tracking or analytics, and does not sell or share personal information. Children's names and ages stay on your device. The only things sent to create a story are the choices you tap, an age range, and — if you choose — a short made-up name for a story character, plus an anonymous identifier used solely to manage the free trial.

1. Children's Privacy (COPPA, GDPR-K) — Our Commitment

Lumitale is intended to be used by a child together with a parent or guardian, and we comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU/UK GDPR provisions on children's data (GDPR-K, Article 8), and Apple's Kids Category requirements.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Lumitale does not require an account and does not collect: real names or surnames, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, photographs, camera or microphone data, contacts, precise or coarse geolocation, advertising identifiers (IDFA), social media information, or browsing history.

3. Information Stored on Your Device and in Your Private iCloud

The first names and ages a grown-up enters for the family, your saved storybooks, and your in-app settings (such as content tone, music, and accessibility preferences) are stored on your device and are never transmitted to us for storage or sharing.

If you are signed in to iCloud, this same information is also kept in your own private iCloud account (through Apple's CloudKit and iCloud key-value storage) so that it automatically syncs across your Apple devices. This data lives in your personal iCloud, under your control — it is never sent to or accessible by Lumitale's servers, and Apple acts as the storage provider on your behalf. You can turn this off in iOS Settings (iCloud → iCloud Drive / app data), and removing the app or its iCloud data deletes it. Apple's handling of iCloud is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

4. Information Processed to Provide the Service

(a) Story inputs

When you create a story, the choices you tap (for example, "a tiny dragon," "the Moon"), the selected age range, and a content-tone setting are sent to our story-generation service to write and illustrate that book. You may optionally give a story character a short, made-up name (picked from our suggestions or typed in) so the story can use it — this is a name for the character, never a request for the child's real name. Any such name is screened for safety, used only to generate that story, and is not stored by us or linked to any person. These inputs are used only to generate your story.

(b) Anonymous device identifier (a "persistent identifier")

To operate the free trial fairly, the app creates a random, app-specific identifier stored on the device and sends it with story requests so we can count the number of free stories used. This identifier is not your name, not your Apple ID, and is not linked to any personal information. It is used solely to manage the trial — never for advertising, profiling, or cross-app or cross-site tracking. Under updated COPPA rules we disclose this as a persistent identifier used for an activity necessary ("integral") to the app's internal operations.

(c) Technical request data

Like any internet service, our hosting provider may transiently process standard request metadata (such as IP address) to deliver responses, protect against abuse, and keep the service reliable. We do not use this to build profiles of you or your child.

5. How We Use Information

We do not use information for advertising, we do not sell or "share" it (as defined under U.S. state privacy laws), and we do not use it to train third-party advertising or profiling systems.

6. Legal Bases (EEA/UK)

Where GDPR applies, we process the limited information above to perform our contract with you (to generate stories and provide subscriptions), to pursue our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and functional in a way that does not override your rights, and to comply with law. Where consent is required for children's data, a parent or guardian provides it through the parental gate.

7. Service Providers (Subprocessors)

We use a small number of vetted providers strictly to deliver the service. They process data only on our instructions and only as needed to perform their function:

We do not permit these providers to use information for their own advertising or to sell it.

8. No Advertising, Tracking, or Sale of Data

Lumitale contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no social media trackers. We do not sell or share personal information, and there is no cross-app tracking. Because we do not track you, we honor "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control signals by default.

9. Data Retention & Deletion

On-device information remains until you delete it (for example, by removing a child, deleting a saved book, or uninstalling the app). Story inputs sent for generation are processed transiently and are not retained by us to build a profile. The anonymous trial identifier is retained only as long as needed to administer the trial. You may request deletion of any information associated with your anonymous identifier by contacting us (see "Contact"); we will delete it and confirm.

10. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), store secrets securely, minimize the data we handle, and follow reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect the limited information the app handles.

11. International Data Transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for such transfers.

12. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you live, you (or, for a child, the parent/guardian) may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Because most information is stored only on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly in the app (edit or remove children, delete saved books, change settings, or uninstall). To exercise any right with respect to the anonymous trial identifier, email us and we will respond as required by law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

United States

Parents/guardians have rights under COPPA to review and delete their child's information and to refuse further collection or use. Residents of California (CCPA/CPRA) and other states with privacy laws have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale/share — note that we do not sell or share personal information.

EEA / UK

You have the rights described above under the GDPR/UK GDPR and may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy as the app or the law evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide a prominent notice in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Policy.

14. Contact

Questions, requests, or concerns? Email us at hello@lumitaleapp.com. We will respond promptly and within the timeframes required by applicable law.
